Thank goodness the word didn't come down on Friday the 13th! :-D
We recently had our rent raised by $12 ( to $673 ), here at The Branch Maceyugoserbulgarigreekadonian Compound, and a new Manager for the Property we are located on was also installed.
When I returned from work Thursday night I found a notice on my door:
I was being given 60 days notice to vacate.
My 1st reaction was: What the F***???
Then I went to bed, and slept on it.
Yesterday morning I went in search of an explanation.
I've been such a good tenant, and this made no sense:
According to my Rental Agreement either party can just up and decide to give 30 days notice.
The old, and new Managers both assured me that this was not an eviction.
There is no "reason", and none is needed anyway.
The Landlord just decided to exercise the option out of the blue.
I was told that they would have no problem giving me glowing recommendations where ever I apply next.
Why I was given the boot, when there are other tenants who are trouble to one degree, or another, is a mystery I'm likely to never get an answer for since the Landlord can hide behind the fact that "no reason is needed".
( UPDATE 5/20: I DO have suspicions, though )
My search began yesterday with my picking up several of the Free Apartment Hunt Guides available in street corner machines.
I am looking for a 1 bedroom in Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, or even Westminster, and am resigned to the fact that my rent will probably go up by at least $100, and I may have to pay a utility, or 2, as well.
The new place MUST accept my furry, feline companion, and Best Bud, Nikita, as well. :-D
Just when I had setttled in, and was making plans to move when I was ready, later in the Fall, my hand is forced, and so I ask for your good thoughts, and all the "Happy Hunting!" vibes you can send my way.
Dude, I feel for you. we're in the same boat except that we're trying to do it from 3000 miles away with a dog :)
And our rent is likely to double if we want the same sized place :)

Other than the hassle of moving,
the probable rent increase, and
the time spent, this all might
work out for the best. Hope you
find a cozy, happy place that
you and kitty will look forward
to ....

Actually it is much easier to find a new rental at the end of the school season...early summer ...by late summer/fall everyone is already settled for next school year...so your timing is about right...there will be lots of college students of who will be leaving this month too.
What is the expression, when life hands you lemons, squeeze them over lobster...er summin' like that. ;^)
