A London Cyclist in Search of the Wide Blue Yonder

Sometimes some of the best, and most interesting blogging can be had by visiting the blogs of those fine, upstanding, citizens who stumble upon YOUR establishment, and leave a comment. ;-D

One example of this is the writer of the Blog Kimbofo.

Kimbofo is a 30-something ex-pat Australian who lives in London with an Irishman called T.

Recently she has discovered the joys of taking her life in her hands by cycling through busy London traffic.

Last Sept. she started writing about her cycling experiences as just one aspect of her writing, and I'm here to recommend a few pieces.

As she writes in one early post:

Any commuter who thinks it's safer to traverse the streets on the back of a bicycle rather than the tube or bus network has rocks in their head. You don't cycle to escape the suicide bombers: you cycle to feel every nerve ending, every fibre of your being SING with adrenalin, fear and excitement. I truly don't think you know you're alive until you tackle the giant urban assault course which is London's busy road network with nothing more than a helmet, a fluorescent jacket and some pedal-pushers for protection.

2. "Every morning I cycle the length of Hyde Park  along a dedicated 2.5km cycle path that runs parallel with Rotten Row (a wide bridleway)."

Great pictures!

Me, heap big jealous!

Through the Park.

3. I KNOW I shouldn't laugh but... hee, hee. ;-D

A Rant about a Flat Tyre.

4. Okay, you can stop giggling now. What you have here is an interesting, and harrowing, description of a week of bike riding:

Here's a day-to-day account of my frustrating, sometimes dangerous, experiences commuting by bicycle last week...

Bicycle Blues: The Complete Story.

5. Unbeknown to her she took this lovely ride on MY BIRTHDAY! ;-D

God, I am SOOOOO jealous!

Great pictures!

A Sunday morning cycle through Richmond Park.

She has a whole archive of interesting posts worth checking out. ;-D

Thanks, Kiril.

Chuffed that you found my posts of interest.

I must say that making the decision to ride through London on the back of a bicycle 3 or 4 times a week is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It has certainly added a new dimension to my life - and helped me deal with stress in a new and interesting (and sometimes dangerous) way!

Hey Kimbofo - just got back from London. We stayed at a hotel on the north side of the Park. I loved your pictures ( I forgot to take any!). I rode the Circle Loop a lot and saw a cyclist with a flat trying to talk her way onto the tube during rush. It couldn't of been you again, could it?

Looks like you have a lovely part of town to commute through. Reminds me of a bike commute I use to do into Philadelphia. Although the traffic IS faster in London ( and goes the wrong way, too :-)
