Today I served my 1 day of Jury Duty at the Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana.
It was an interesting experience, and went smoothly.
I was never called to a court room, and so sat in the Jury Assembly Room with a room full of my fellow citizens, of different ethnic, and economic, backrounds, young, and old, from La Habra to San Clemente.
I read a book and, as the day progressed, made an important discovery that led me to ask a Clerk a question, and to write a note on the questionaire at the end of the day.
We are given a blue pamphlet that explains about Jury Duty, the Agenda for the day, and other important things about terms of service, attendance, parking, and more.
2 sentences, paired together, caught my attention and led to my inquiry:
On Occasion, Jurors may be required, by the court, to remain available in the Jury Assembly Room after 5pm. A microwave is available for re-heating in both Jury Assembly Rooms on the 1st, and 3rd, floors.
After returning from lunch I approached Window 1, and told a Clerk that after reading the pamphlet, and looking into the matter I had a question about the microwave ovens.
Aftrer assuring her I knew where they were I said I believed they were inadequite to the task the pamphlet said they were assigned.
She looked at me funny, and I said they were not big enough.
After another puzzled look, and a bit more opinionating by me, it was clear she had no clue what i meant, and so I took pity on the poor woman and laughing, let her in on the joke.
When realization dawned, her face turned red, and she started laughing. ;-D
I discovered I was the 1st person to bring this issue to anyones attention.
At days end we fill out a short questionaire that allows us to make comments, and include our badge number if we wished a reply. ;-D
I could not resist, and will share any response I get back to the following:
OBSERVATION REGARDING JURY DUTY BOOKLET:
In regards to the following 2 sentences in the Jury Pamphlet:
"On Occasion, Jurors may be required, by the court, to remain available in the Jury Assembly Room after 5pm. A microwave is available for re-heating in both Jury Assembly Rooms on the 1st, and 3rd, floors."
Upon inspection it is my humble opinion that neither microwave is adequate to the task required of them ( Namely: Re-heating any Jurors that may need it. ).
Can you address this issue, and see to its correction?
Such as, um, providing much larger Microwave Ovens?
I know, I know.... I'm a baaad boy! ;-D
